Pavel Klinichev

Graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory as choirmaster (with Prof. Boris Tevlin) in 1998, and as symphony conductor in 2000 (with Prof. Mark Ermler) and continued his training as symphony conductor at the Moscow Conservatory post-graduate course. While still a fourth-year student, Pavel Klinichev joined the Bolshoi Young Artist Program.

In 2001, after a symphony tour with the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra in the United States, the artistic director of the Bolshoi Theatre Gennady Rozhdestvensky offered Pavel Klinichev to become the staff conductor of the Theatre. Subsequently, more than forty works were performed at the Bolshoi Theatre, including the operas Prince Igor, The Snow Maiden, The Tsar's Bride, Nabucco, The Golden Cockerel, Eugene Onegin, Iolanta, La Traviata, La Boheme, Tosca, Fiery Angel.

In the repertoire of Pavel Klinichev are ballets Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker PI. Tchaikovsky, Romeo and Juliet and Ivan the Terrible S. Prokofiev, Raymonda A. Glazunov, The Golden Age, Bolt and The Limpid Stream D. Shostakovich and almost all the ballets from the repertoire of the Bolshoi Theatre music by J. Bizet, I. Stravinsky, L. Beethoven, G. Mahler, W. Mozart and other composers.

Led by Pavel Klinichev as a Music Director, the Bolshoi Theatre hosted the premieres of fourteen ballet performances. Among the latest productions – The Rite of Spring to music by I. Stravinsky in 2013, Frank Bridge Variations by B. Britten, Symphony of Psalms by I. Stravinsky, Ondine by Hans Werner Henze and The Golden Age by D. Shostakovich in 2016, Romeo and Juliet by S. Prokofiev in 2017. 

Maestro Klinichev appeared with the Bolshoi Opera, Ballet and Orchestra at the most famed venues, including the Teatro alla Scala, The Metropolitan Opera, The Royal Opera House Covent Garden, The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, Opera Garnier, Bunka Kaikan (Tokyo), The National Center for the Performing Arts (Beijing) and many others.

During the tour of the Bolshoi Theatre, Pavel Klinichev collaborated with the Bavarian Opera Orchestra, the Teatro Regio di Torino Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of the Kennedy Center (Washington, USA), the Teatro Regio di Parma Orchestra, the Orchestre Colonne (Paris) and many other. He performed with the Symphony Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia, the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Academy of the West (California), the Academic Orchestras of St. Petersburg, Saratov, Rostov-on-Don and the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Pavel Kogan with various symphonic programs. 

From 2004 to 2008, he collaborated with Elena Obraztsova and the international competition of young opera singers founded by her.

During 2005-2007 seasons - the main guest conductor of the Universal Ballet Company (South Korea).

In 2014-2017 was a resident guest conductor at the Mikhailovsky Theatre (St. Petersburg).

Maestro Klinichev's recordings include a CD with the Bolshoi Chamber Orchestra (Universal label) and a DVD (Spartacus performed by The Bolshoi Ballet and Orchestre Colonne) with DECCA label.

In 2010-2015 Maestro Klinichev has served as Chief Conductor of the Ekaterinburg Opera Theatre, since Season 2015-2016 continues to work at this Theatre as Guest Conductor. He was a Music Director of the number opera productions The Love for Three Oranges, Le Comte Ory, Otello, Rigoletto as well as many ballet productions. 

Teaches symphony conducting at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory.

 Winner of the National Theatre Award "The Golden Mask" in the nomination "The Best Conductor" for the productions Cantus Arcticus (2014), Tsvetodelika (2015) at the Ekaterinburg Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, and Ondine at Bolshoi (2017).
